Tom van Laer is Associate Professor in Narratologie (verhaal theorie) aan de University of Sydney Business School en zegt dat pelgrims wel aan hun spiritualiteit toekomen als ze op reis zijn maar niet noodzakelijkerwijze een fijne trip hebben. Verder vertelt hij hoe hij als uitwisselingstudent in Sydney is blijven plakken en waar zijn volgende onderzoek over zal gaan: moderne pilgrims die bijvoorbeeld een Harry Potter reis ondernemen.
