Feeling Derailed and How to Deal: Nurse ...

Adrianne Behning
About this episode
In this episode, Jillian is here again to talk about a topic she and Adrianne know all too well...feeling like nothing is going as planned. You’re derailed. The train is off the freaking rails!
But don’t despair, there are things that can be done to make this period of time seem less daunting and insurmountable.

Adrianne and Jillian examine what factors, intrinsic and extrinsic, make us feel like we’re in such a damn hurry and any setback or detour is a disaster. In our current world with COVID, the election, climate change, and natural disasters, among other things, it’s a time of frustration, unforeseen changes, and uncertainty. This is especially true for students who find themselves thrust into online curriculums and modified clinical training with little notice. Navigating takes some finesse, but is not impossible.

The advice discussed in this shorter-than-usual talk includes:

-Finding a balance between being tough and dealing with your emotions.
-Remember that detours are not defeats
-The antidote to worry is action
-Being at the top of your bureaucracy game
-Listen to your body and take care
-Follow those who are doing well
-Always have a backup plan

Adrianne and Jillian are not perfect people, but we’ve tried to learn from our own derailments. Now they pass that onto you. As always, not all advice works for all people; take what you think might work and make it your own.
