Barbara Mason, CHRO of Scotiabank, may be one of the most successful women in banking, but it was never her plan to go into finance. As a college graduate with a degree in urban geography, she started working with the bank in order to scout new locations for branches. It turns out she had a knack for the business, however, working in almost every aspect of the bank in her nearly 40 years there, leading her to be listed among Canada’s most powerful women.
One of Barbara’s passion projects has been spearheading the Scotiabank Women Initiative, supporting women-owned businesses through access to capital, mentorship and education. By supporting women in their careers, and highlighting the need to make a shift in social stigma around the division of labor at home, Barbara is working to ensure more women can jumpstart their own business ventures and rise in the ranks of corporations worldwide.
The Female Founder Collective is partnering with SAP on a program to help moms and dads parenting during the pandemic. The Back to Best for Parents resource page brings together special offers, resources, and content to support parents by helping them integrate work and life during the tough times of COVID-19.
