In the summer of 1976, the bodies of a young man and woman were found off the side of a secluded dirt road outside the town of Lynchburg in Sumter County, South Carolina. The victims had both been shot several times. Police were unable to identify the victims and they became known as the Sumter County Does.

As of 2pm ET on January 21, 2021 The Sumter County Sheriff's office has identified the Sumter County Does as 25-year-old Pamela Buckley of Colorado Springs, CO and 30-year-old James Freund of Lancaster, PA.
