Sample Returns from Space

ALFONSO MINERVINO
About this episode

How can we defend ourselves from a potential asteroid impact? We want to know answers to this plus more about how our solar system formed and how life got started on Earth. And the way to do this is to send probes out there to do some solid science. But what would be better is if we can get some samples from those bodies, return them to Earth, and run the full gamut of experiments to determine some answers. Three probes are out there from China, Japan, and the US that are doing just that. Let's talk about how spacecraft from these countries are working to bring samples back from the moon and two different asteroids. Plus, the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn is upon us! For the first time in 800 years! History in the making! Image from JAXA of untouched sample from asteroid Ryugu.
