بالرغم من تقيد المرأة في دمشق بالعديد من المحظورات حينها، أصرت ليلى على استكمال تعليمها.

عملت بالتعليم وبالإدارة والتفتيش، وأجرت ندوات ثقافية وأخرى حول التوثيق والتأريخ، قدمتها داخل دمشق وخارجها.

ولأول مرة في تاريخ المجمع العلمي للغة العربية بدمشق، انتُخبت ليلى عضوًا عاملًا في المجمع.
