Trick or Treat: How Diet and Lifestyle S...

Rebecca Minkoff
About this episode

Dr. Casey Means started off as a surgeon with a focus on the ear, nose and throat. After spending some time in the field, however, a pattern emerged. Dr. Means came to realize that many conditions treated with drugs or surgery were not eradicating the root cause of disease, which could in fact be managed by a change in diet and lifestyle. Data shows that metabolic dysfunction aggravates or causes many of the leading life-threatening diseases in the U.S. Further research reveals that only 1 in 12 Americans are considered “metabolically healthy.”

In response, Dr. Means has created Levels, a glucose monitoring system aimed at tracking each person’s individual reactions to the foods they eat in order to tailor diet and exercise to the specifications that work the best for their body’s unique chemistry. As diseases rise and life expectancy declines, Levels offers the opportunity to invest in ourselves by imparting autonomy over our own health.
