#23 - Paul Nation: The ins and outs of t...

E2
About this episode

In this episode, Jay chats with Paul Nation who is Emeritus Professor in Applied Linguistics at the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. His specialist interests are the teaching and learning of vocabulary and language teaching methodology.

Jay and Paul discuss vocabulary - how many words do native English speakers know? How do we learn new words? Is word frequency important? Is polysemy even a thing? They also discuss the application of Paul's "four strands" method of language learning to online learning environments - a comprehensive theory of second language learning.

If you're an English language teacher or avid English language learner - or you're just interested in the magic of language itself - you don't want to miss this discussion.
