Hi guys, welcome back! Today I'll teach you 14 new expressions to improve your vocabulary. These expressions can be used in everyday conversations to sound more natural when you speak Italian! Have a good listening!
Vocabulary&Examples:
1. Di gran lunga = By far - Ex: Paola è di gran lunga l'impiegata migliore dell'azienda (Paola is by far the best employee of the firm)
2. In fin dei conti/alla fin fine = At the end of the day - Ex: Alla fin fine non è niente di così grave (At the end of the day, it's nothing too serious). In fin dei conti vogliamo solo essere felici (At the end of the day, all we want is to be happy)
3. Tanto vale che... = Might as well - Ex: Se si deve rimanere in silenzio ad una festa, tanto vale rimanere a casa (If you have to be silent at a party, you might as well stay home). Se la maglietta è a metà prezzo, tanto vale comprarne due (If the t-shirt is half price, you might as well buy two of them)
4. Prima o poi = Sooner or later/at some point - Ex: Prima o poi Marco lo scoprirà (Soon or later, Marco will find out about it). Iniziamo a mangiare, Sara arriverà prima o poi (Let's start eating, Sara will arrive at some point)
5. Non vedere l'ora di = To look forward to/cannot wait to Ex: Non vedo l'ora di andare al concerto (I can't wait to go to the concert). Non vedo l'ora di partire (I'm very looking forward to leave)
6. Una sorta di/più o meno = (a) kind of - Ex: Questo film è una sorta di commedia (This film is kind of a comedy). Ti è piaciuto il film? Più o meno (Did you like the film? Kind of)
7. Se non altro = If nothing else/at least - Ex: Se non altro ci ha detto la verità (If nothing else, he told us the truth). Era molto seccata, o se non altro così sembrava (She was really annoyed, or at least so it seemed)
8. Detto ciò = With that being said - Ex: Detto ciò, possiamo andare avanti con la spiegazione (With that being said, we can go on explaining). Detto ciò, possiamo cambiare argomento (With that being said, we can change topics of discussion)
9. Come nessun altro = Like no other - Ex: Maria è una cantante senza pari (Maria is a singer like no other)
10. Nel giro di/nell'arco di = In ... years time - Ex: Stefano si laureerà nel giro di due anni, ne sono sicuro (Stefano will graduate in two years time, I'm sure). La strada è cambiata molto nell'arco di due giorni (The street has changed a lot in two days time)
11. Sempre di più/sempre più = More and more - Ex: Marco fuma sempre di più, si fa del male da solo (Marco smokes more and more, he's hurting himself). Laura diventa sempre più bella ogni giorno che passa (Laura becomes more beautiful everyday)
12. Sempre di meno/sempre meno = Less and less - Ex: Marco fuma sempre di meno, meno male! (Marco smokes less and less, thank goodness!). Laura diventa sempre meno simpatica ogni giorno che passa (Laura becomes less nice/funny every day)
13. Ogni due giorni = Every other day - Ex: Mia sorella mi telefona ogni due giorni (My sister calls me every other day)
14. Ad alta voce = Out loud - Ex: Leggere ad alta voce aiuta a pronunciare bene (Reading out loud helps with pronunciation)
