DFN PODCAST : HOW FASHION NICHE MARKETS ...

FASHION
About this episode

This podcast is very special because we will interview Iban Salgado. He used to be a professional ballroom dancer and now he makes clothes for those dancers. He has make his mark in that very niche market and it is going to share with us how niche markets work and what are his plans to develop further his business and his creativity.

Iban Salgado Collection started just 3 years ago, but in that short period of time a lot has happened. From growing the number of members of staff, to get total recognition of his work in a very particular market: The competitive dancing.

As every sport, high competition ballroom dancing has its own standards. The fact of knowing them well, and the desire to improve even further the aesthetics, the comfort and the resilience of the garment made Iban´s clothes outstanding and very sought after.

Ballroom champions all over the world order their outfits in advance. Iban Salgado creations are the haute couture for professional dancers. For every creation, he will meet the clients, understand his or her requirements, their personalities, their movements when dancing, the location where the championship will be held, etc. Even the colour of the floor where the exhibitions will take place is important as you want the dancers to stand out and be seen by the judges.

Niche markets require of this level and absolute love to detail. To be successful you have to become or be already a total specialist. The clientele will be very close to you and you have to be there for your clientele no matter what. In order to sell, you attend specific events and organise your operations around your target customer´s behaviour.

When opening a business, they always recommend to look for a niche market. It is easier to say than to do. You cannot fake til you make it. You have to love and be part of that community to be able to cater them accordingly. And this applies for absolutely any niche you might pick.

Iban Salgado: Dancing with the stars and with the brides to be!

Iban Salgado is opening is creativity now also to night gowns for special events and wedding dresses. He will keep on looking for the soul of the client to make the dress part of the unique experience.

You will always remember your wedding day (or days, if you are a serial Elizabeth Taylor). On that special day, family and friends pamper the bride. He wants to join the celebration by offering the bride the dress of her dreams.
