Eric Burton (Black Pumas)

DANICA PATRICK
About this episode

The trajectory of Austin-based band Black Pumas has seen a phenomenal rise since the duo formed in 2017. Grammy-winning producer and guitarist Adrian Quesada was introduced to Eric Burton, a powerhouse songwriter and street performer, by a mutual friend. The two musicians connected and the first day they got together in the studio, they recorded what would become the Black Pumas’ first two singles, “Black Moon Rising” and “Fire.” 2019 saw the band selling out tours in the US, EU, and UK and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. The following year, their critically acclaimed self-titled debut for ATO Records was nominated for Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammys, and its lead single “Colors,” which has surpassed 150million streams, was nominated for Record of the Year. From their incredible appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America, and more, to their Emerging Act of the Year win at the2020 Americana Music Association Honors & Awards and their moving performance at the2021 Biden-Harris Inauguration, Black Pumas have had an explosive year.
